Get Involved with SubRosa!

Our collective is small right now, at the same time, we have a strong commitment to each other and to SubRosa.  Summer is approaching, which is a time that a number of us go out of town for varying lengths of time, so our available energy for SubRosa ebbs and flows.  With that in mind, we want to extend the invitation for you to...

Get Involved with SubRosa!

We are looking for folks who are interested in bringing their enthusiastic radical energy to this project.  We are focused on making the space feel like a vibrant community space, safe and comfortable for all sorts of people to share ideas, get together, study, perform at events, and create art.  We'd like you to be part of that if you are into it.

What does your life look like now?  Do you want to help make SubRosa a vibrant radical community space?

SubRosa is a space for all kinds of people.  Our collective is largely, and not exclusively, drawn from the anarchist community.  Not everyone identifies as an anarchist, however, we do share a common curiosity about and interest in radical social change, as we hope you do too.

We want to be explicit that we want SubRosa to be a place where women, trans folk, queer, and people of color feel safe, welcome and empowered.  If you are similarly committed to fighting sexism, racism, homo/transphobia, and other forms of coercive domination, we encourage you to talk to us about getting involved.

There are possibilities for you to either be a staffer or volunteer.  Staffers hold down a weekly shift and hold additional responsibilities for collective decision-making, bottomlining tasks, and attending bi-weekly meetings.  Volunteers can be involved with SubRosa in a variety of ways that range from staffing with a collective member, to assisting with events like the Open Mic and shows, and much much more.

SubRosa is a space that is only as vital as the people that are involved to put energy into it.  Being a collective member or volunteer is an opportunity to collaborate with others, where we are putting into action in the here-and-now how we want to live our lives, sharing power and responsibility, supporting and inspiring each other, and creating a vibrant social space where so much can and does happen.

Please email subrosa-staffing@riseup.net with your interest, and/or comments, and we can begin the conversation about your involvement with SubRosa and what that could look like.

For more info about SubRosa, events, art, classes, and so on, look through this website.  We welcome you to also come to SubRosa and talk to a collective member who is staffing the space.  Also, read the description about SubRosa below, which is the closest we have to a statement of intent.

@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@

SubRosa is an anarchist community space run by a collective of committed people from the Santa Cruz area, freely giving of our energy and time.  We put our energy into SubRosa to create a vibrant environment, available for events, classes and meetings, collaborations and organizing, art and creativity, as well as reading and studying.

We offer a selection of radical books and magazines, coffee and tea, and a space for art, performance, and community.  This is a space to meet people, share resources and ideas, challenge our assumptions and act on our passions.

As anti-authoritarian space, we strive to create an environment where people are empowered to have interactions based on self-responsibility, mutual respect and free association.  We want to create a welcoming space for others who share the goals of diverse community, respect for all forms of life, and freedom from coercive relationships, to foster an environment free from sexism, homophobia, racism, and other forms of hierarchy.

Comments on the SubRosa website are fully moderated. As a collective, we agreed that the purpose of the website was to promote SubRosa, not to provide an online place for lively and invigorating debate. We hope that the space itself is where conversations on the nature of anarchism and local projects will take place. That said, we occasionally approve comments that are informative or reflect a viewpoint we feel it is important for website visitors to read.
