Events online SubRosa related - Wed: a bedroom live-stream show & Thurs: Neuroqueer Support ONLINE Circle // help stop evictions // mutual aid resources // & More!

Note from the SubRosa collective:  Our priority is the health and safety of our communities. We are closely monitoring the ever-evolving coronavirus COVID-19 situation and are thinking about ways we can maintain our collective and community health and provide mutual aid.
As of Saturday, March 14th, SubRosa (and other Hub projects) will be canceling
all gatherings and events until further notice.
The collective is exploring ways it can support its members and communities through
mutual aid and support of community-based response efforts.

~Thursday, March 26th, 7:30 - 8:30pm: Neuroqueer Support ONLINE Circle (info below for joining online)

2nd and 4th Thursdays at 7:30, March 26th, April 2nd, April 14th, April 30th and ongoing!

We are neuroqueer, neurodivergent and neuroemergent. We have nervous systems which challenge the norms of psychiatry, ability and social expectations. Many of us have been deeply pathologized from a young age. Many of us have had difficulty recognizing the validity of who we are,  difficulty perceiving and developing our abilities, our gifts, in the climate of pathologization we've been steeped in. But we have the chance to form new circles of validation, to immerse ourselves in affirming spaces, to be "believing mirrors" for each other. And some of us have learned ways to embrace who we are and would love to share about it! Life can be difficult or just different for us so let's talk about it! (or draw, stim, sign, sing, dance about it). If that' s what you' ve been dreaming of, please join this co- facilitated circle.

Details:   This is a non-structured sharing space with revolving facilitators. We may decide to focus on a specific discussion topic or not.  Non- verbal means of communication and sharing or just being will be welcomed. There will be snacks and art supplies.

This will be an anti- oppression focused space.*

This will be a queer space, (for ppl with LQBTQIA+ identities, yes, including Ace) with a possibility of opening up to others later once  queer safety has been established to our satisfaction. Respecting various gender identities and pronouns is a must.

Who this space is for: queer people of all kinds of neurodivergence, including but not limited to adhd, bipolar, autistic, spd, hsp, bpd and so many more, regardless of diagnoses. No official diagnosis is necessary, people's self knowledge of their own nervous system will be respected. (Sometimes ppl can feel like they aren't neurodivergent enough, and if that's what's going on for you, talk to us!).  If you're interested but have concerns about whether the space will be safe for you, or whether you can uphold the anti-oppression and gender affirming container we hope to create, please talk to the organizers.

Neuroqueer defined: This is a non-rigid, ever evolving definition but the gist is that our nervous systems are queer because they defy normativity, and it is that very normativity which we disintegrate and compost when we come into our authenticity, power and pride.

Anti- oppression: As neuroqueer people who might have differences in learning and perceiving social cues, we recognize that social justice perfection is a normative expectation, however we seek to create a least- harmful space for everyone. So please know that ableism, racism, classism, transphobia, misogyny and other oppressions create serious harm and will be addressed.

UPDATE: This group is online now! Feel free to invite folks from other regions. Skype in option!!! Out of spoons or socially depleted but still want to join? Totally Skype in if you want. Just let us know before hand. contact Amber Naali for questionswillowandalder@gmail.com

SubRosa is a collectively run anarchist community space, a place to meet others and challenge our assumptions and act on our passions. We strive to create a vibrant environment for events, classes, meetings, organizing, performance, art, studying and more. SubRosa also offers radical literature for sale, and houses the Anarchist Lending Library. We welcome folks to join us in fostering an environment free from coercion, sexism, queer&homophobia, racism, ableism and other hierarchies.

SubRosa is part of the Hub Community Center, in downtown Santa Cruz, CA which is the unceded territory of the Awaswas-speaking Uypi Tribe. The Amah Mutsun Tribal Band, comprised of the descendants of indigenous people taken to missions Santa Cruz and San Juan Bautista during Spanish colonization of the Central Coast, is today working hard to restore traditional stewardship practices on these lands and heal from historical trauma.

Comments on the SubRosa website are fully moderated. As a collective, we agreed that the purpose of the website was to promote SubRosa, not to provide an online place for lively and invigorating debate. We hope that the space itself is where conversations on the nature of anarchism and local projects will take place. That said, we occasionally approve comments that are informative or reflect a viewpoint we feel it is important for website visitors to read.
