And there is a long overdue reckoning and ongoing engagement regarding race and racism in this country and here in Santa Cruz (and as Fábrica banner reads - Black Liberation Everywhere) - and not to take attention away from this, there's also attention to the continued harassment of houseless folk in Santa Cruz (and not unrelated). Efforts to defund the police are also taking place. While the global pandemic continues, there's also transformative possibilities emerging.

SubRosa is part of the Hub Community Center, in downtown Santa Cruz, CA which is the unceded territory of the Awaswas-speaking Uypi Tribe. The Amah Mutsun Tribal Band, comprised of the descendants of indigenous people taken to missions Santa Cruz and San Juan Bautista during Spanish colonization of the Central Coast, is today working hard to restore traditional stewardship practices on these lands and heal from historical trauma.
