This Sunday! Really Really Free Market! // Nov - SubRosa's 12th birthday! // & more!!!

-This Sunday! Nov 8th, 12-4pm - Yup! Really Really Free Market! No money. No trades. Everything is free. With pandemic protocols- let's share community care! The free market a month ago was such a wonderful time we're doing it again.  https://www.facebook.com/events/387691795917831/ and https://www.instagram.com/p/CHMoYXIARHa/
You probably know all the usual protocols to take because of the pandemic - please wear a mask and practice social distancing. Be prepared to wait in a short line if there is a good amount of people already in the space.
If you have a donation, we encourage you to bring it anytime between 12-1. We will take donations until 2:30, at which point we not guarantee that we can take them. And we encourage you to bring clothes and gear for the cold weather for SCC Mutual Aid to distribute. And we'll have lots and lots of books!!! Plenty of reading possibilities await!
We all have something to share with each other... and to receive with gratitude is also a gift. This gathering is not about the "stuff" we give and take, but more about how we can care for each other. So, come to the Really Really Free Market to give away your old stuff and/or get new-to-you stuff. Bring your special items that you don't use but can't throw away (ex. clothes, toys, art supplies, instruments, books and zines... your free box).
We will have folks to check in with as you arrive. First come first served, space may be limited. Don't be late and be sure to check in with the organizers when you get there. If you bring things, you are expected to take away whatever is left at the end of the market.

-This November 1st was SubRosa's 12th birthday! Although we're not operating in the same ways during the pandemic, SubRosa and the collective is still active in different ways. See our linktree in bio about ways to support SubRosa during this challenging time and for a bit of SubRosa history and a slice of Santa Cruz radical history. https://linktr.ee/SubrosaSC and https://actionnetwork.org/fundraising/support-subrosa...

From the SubRosa history post: "September and October 2008 we worked on the inside and courtyard at a space at 703 Pacific Avenue that was soon to be named SubRosa. Lots of folks helped for lots of hours.  On Halloween we were still working on the inside, painting and other last minute touches.  People would drift in and out in costume to help until late into the night.
.
The next evening, November 1st was our opening with an art show and music!  It poured rain that night and the courtyard flooded.  We called the outside area the info-swamp and set down blocks of cement as stepping stone islands.  Inside the space was packed and humid.  The paint started dripping down the walls and quite a few people went home wearing the paint on their clothes as they unwittingly leaned against the wet walls...hopefully a nice reminder of a great opening night."

Much appreciation to all the collective members over the years and to so many that have contributed to the space - and may we have many more years ahead!

Lots of info sharing online (Instagram etc) - Here's a few of many pages for central coast - Posts & stories & websites!!! Possibilities to contribute in various ways (from http://journal.subrosaproject.org/2020/11/lots-of-info-sharing-online-instagram.html)

SubRosa is a collectively run anarchist community space, a place to meet others and challenge our assumptions and act on our passions. We strive to create a vibrant environment for events, classes, meetings, organizing, performance, art, studying and more. SubRosa also offers radical literature for sale, and houses the Anarchist Lending Library. We welcome folks to join us in fostering an environment free from coercion, sexism, queer&homophobia, racism, ableism and other hierarchies.

SubRosa is part of the Hub Community Center, in downtown Santa Cruz, CA which is the unceded territory of the Awaswas-speaking Uypi Tribe. The Amah Mutsun Tribal Band, comprised of the descendants of indigenous people taken to missions Santa Cruz and San Juan Bautista during Spanish colonization of the Central Coast, is today working hard to restore traditional stewardship practices on these lands and heal from historical trauma.

Do you want to join SubRosa in solidarity with the Amah Mutsun Tribal Band?

Comments on the SubRosa website are fully moderated. As a collective, we agreed that the purpose of the website was to promote SubRosa, not to provide an online place for lively and invigorating debate. We hope that the space itself is where conversations on the nature of anarchism and local projects will take place. That said, we occasionally approve comments that are informative or reflect a viewpoint we feel it is important for website visitors to read.
