In response to the devastating earthquake in Turkey and Syria, which has disproportionately claimed Kurdish lives, Rojava Solidarity Santa Cruz ( @rojavasc ) in collaboration with SubRosa Community Space is hosting a fundraiser to raise support for Kurdish earthquake survivors. Proceeds will be going to Heyva Sor, or the Kurdish Red Crescent, a Europe-based charity organization. Heyva Sor has been providing on the ground aid and direct donations to Kurdish communities which already experience extreme governmental neglect and abuse, making it even more unlikely that international help will reach these areas.

SubRosa is part of the Hub Community Center, in downtown Santa Cruz, CA which is the unceded territory of the Awaswas-speaking Uypi Tribe. The Amah Mutsun Tribal Band, comprised of the descendants of indigenous people taken to missions Santa Cruz and San Juan Bautista during Spanish colonization of the Central Coast, is today working hard to restore traditional stewardship practices on these lands and heal from historical trauma.
