Over next few days at SubRosa!

And updated info re: pride event Friday

TODAY! -"Punk Revolution" book release talk & music, Tuesday, June 27th, 6–9pm - After the book talk, local duo Power Strip will be performing.

"An Oral History of Punk Rock Politics and Activism" JOHN MALKIN - FOREWORD BY KLEE BENALLY - publicity-info about book - "The most wide-ranging and provocative look at punk rock as a social change movement told through firsthand accounts. Punk rock has been on the front lines of activism since exploding on the scene in the 1970s. Punk Revolution! is a reflection on this cultural movement over the past 45 years, told through firsthand accounts of hundreds of musicians and activists. John Malkin brings together a wide cast of characters that include major punk and postpunk musicians. These insightful, radical, and often funny conversations travel through rebellions against Margaret Thatcher, Ronald Reagan, Donald Trump, and Vladimir Putin, to punk activism that has taken on nuclear war, neoliberalism, modern warfare, patriarchy, white supremacy, the police, settler colonialism, the climate crisis, and more…"

John Malkin is a journalist, musician, activist, photographer and filmmaker. "Punk Revolution! – An Oral History of Punk Rock Politics and Activism" is his third book. Some of these interviews were first broadcast on Free Radio Santa Cruz (pirate radio) and KZSC, another local radio station located at UCSC. // https://fb.me/e/4l4PlU8DD & https://www.instagram.com/p/CtvZpwsOlQx/

What classes would you like to see this summer??? What skills would you like to share? What types of classes would help grow more vibrant, self-reliant and mutually supportive communities? Part of creating a new world is resistance to the old one. Through this project, we want to contribute to changing the ways we learn and the ways we relate to each other.

We look forward to seeing your proposals for the 2023 Summer Free Skool calendar, part 2 (July 16 - September 30) deadline for class submissions for part 2 is Friday June 30 (and classes for part 1 ongoing!). All the info at https://freeskoolsantacruz.wordpress.com/

SubRosa is a collectively run anarchist community space, a place to meet others and challenge our assumptions and act on our passions. We strive to create a vibrant environment for events, classes, meetings, organizing, performance, art, studying and more. SubRosa also offers radical literature for sale, and houses the Anarchist Lending Library. We welcome folks to join us in fostering an environment free from coercion, sexism, queer&homophobia, racism, ableism and other hierarchies.

SubRosa is part of the Hub Community Center, in downtown Santa Cruz, CA which is the unceded territory of the Awaswas-speaking Uypi Tribe. The Amah Mutsun Tribal Band, comprised of the descendants of indigenous people taken to missions Santa Cruz and San Juan Bautista during Spanish colonization of the Central Coast, is today working hard to restore traditional stewardship practices on these lands and heal from historical trauma.

Comments on the SubRosa website are fully moderated. As a collective, we agreed that the purpose of the website was to promote SubRosa, not to provide an online place for lively and invigorating debate. We hope that the space itself is where conversations on the nature of anarchism and local projects will take place. That said, we occasionally approve comments that are informative or reflect a viewpoint we feel it is important for website visitors to read.
