Description: Access Is Love is a phase coined by Mia Mingus. This is a Disability Justice (DJ) discussion based loosely on Mia's work: Access Intimacy, the Missing Link, but is going to broaden to discuss DJ applied to our communities.

Location: SubRosa Courtyard, 703 Pacific Avenue, Santa Cruz, CA
Description: In this reading group we are focusing on political theory in two senses of the word "radical." First we are looking at texts on the edges of contemporary political theory – Zapatismo, decolonial feminism, Black anarchism, family abolition, Situationism, etc. – ideas of politics and the political that are original, that defy convention, and that challenge our notions of what is acceptable to say, do or think. The second sense is one that takes seriously the origins of the word "radical", suggesting "roots" or the hidden networks underground that both give strength to the foundations of political activity, and that draw into it the necessary elements for flourishing. We will be looking at contemporary works of political theory that seek to transform the world from the (under)ground up.
Each week we'll read one short book and have a discussion facilitated by our small collective. Almost everything we'll read has been published in the last three years, giving us a chance to engage in a diverse collection of new ideas about how we change the world.

We will walk and get lost, walk *to* get lost, drawn only by the attractions of the terrain and the encounters we find there. In French, dérive literally means drifting. Developed in the 1950s in Paris by the Situationist International, a dérive aims to break down and renew your everyday relations with the spaces around you. It is a strategy for moving through an urban environment, wandering aimlessly without direction or destination, while taking note of one's emotional and psychological response to what we see, touch, taste, and smell.

Accessibility: After initially meeting up at SubRosa, we will likely travel in groups of 2-4, with a goal of sorting people into groups based partly on the speed at which each person wishes to travel.

Description: Explore the cyanotype photographic printing process that creates a vibrant blue hued print. Utilizing pressed botanicals and other texturally interesting items, this workshop will provide an introduction to the technique. Join us as we create 2-3 one-of-a-kind prints on paper, materials provided.
Limit of 15 people (DM: @in2thetides to reserve a spot).
Materials: Bring any botanicals you'd like to use to make your prints.
Accessibility information: The workshop will be outdoors so masking is optional.

Description: The Fábrica is a community workspace where folks can come to learn and share knowledge about textiles arts. This includes Sewing, Knitting, Quilting, Embroidery, Crochet, and Bookbinding, among other arts. The workshop is operated by volunteers and funded by donations from participants. We have sewing machines as well as generous amounts of fabric, zippers, notions, and the other tools and supplies one needs for most sewing and yarn-based projects. There is no charge to use the shop, but please consider a $5-10 donation to help with our operating costs.

About our wonderful neighbor, The Bike Church (enter on Spruce St) - "The Bike Church is a project of the Hub for Sustainable Living and has been Santa Cruz's only community bike shop since 1998. Our shop functions in a DIY/DIT (Do-It-Together) manner: we provide the tools, space and instruction for individuals to fix their own bike with the guidance of knowledgeable mechanics."
"We ask for a donation of $5-15 per hour to use the shop--no one is turned away for lack of funds. We provide used and new parts for affordable prices, and have many used bikes for sale. We give away kids bikes for free. Our shop is run by a collective of mechanics and apprentices who are all paid equally. We use consensus meetings to make decisions about the running of the shop."

SubRosa is part of the Hub Community Center, in downtown Santa Cruz, CA which is the unceded homelands of the Awaswas-speaking Ohlone people known as the Uypi, who stewarded these lands since time immemorial. Centuries of colonial violence led to the removal and displacement of the Uypi. The Amah Mutsun Tribal Band, comprised of the descendants of indigenous people taken to missions Santa Cruz and San Juan Bautista during Spanish colonization of the Central Coast, is today working hard to restore traditional stewardship practices on these lands and heal from historical trauma.
