Sunday! Tianguis Realmente Gratuito. Todo es gratis. Really Really Free Market - this Sunday (10/8) - 11am - 2pm. No money. No trades. Everything is free.
Please wear a mask for community care.
This gathering is not about the "stuff" we give and take, but more about how we can freely give and receive from each other. This is a form of anti-capitalist mutual aid where everyone is invited to participate and share care.
¡Todo gratis! No intercambio de dinero, no negocios, no trueques. Trae lo que gustes, toma lo que necesites. Este mercado gratuito es basado en una economĂa de regalar.
Note: we begin accepting donations at 10:30am and stop at 1pm. If you bring large items and/or significant amounts of stuff please help us at the end (2pm) by taking away anything that might be leftover. Thanks so much!

Wednesday October 11th, 7pm: Queer Voices of Ukraine - West Coast Mini-Tour - with a film screening of 2 short documentaries by Rebel Queers - @rebel_queers2 & a reading of the "Queer Ukraine" anthology by Dvijka collective. With local guests: Ukrainian dance by Steppe - @ukrainiansteppe and sounds by Leshy - @l__eshy / free! / masks required / at SubRosa!
Event will be facilitated by elliott miskovicz, the only US-based writer of the Queer Ukraine anthology. A trans artist and activist with personal ties to Ukraine, miskovicz does humanitarian work in Ukraine while also doing educational work in the US to bridge the knowledge gap around Ukrainian resistance in anti-war activist spaces.
"Ukrainian Queer Fighters for Freedom" is a documentary series by genderqueer artist, activist, and filmmaker, Angelika Ustymenko, of the Rebel Queers collective. In the early hours of February 24, 2022, cruise missiles hammered down on Kyiv and across Ukraine – announcing that Russia's full-scale re-invasion had begun. Every Ukrainian had to make a choice: What are you going to do to resist? Many queer people joined the hundreds of thousands of Ukrainian volunteers – most with no military training – who joined the armed resistance. "Queer Fighters of Ukraine" reveals the experiences of young LGBTQ+ activists and queer party DJs now fighting on the frontlines. Those who did not join the armed resistance found other ways to resist. And Angelika began collecting queer fighters' reflections after a year of war and broadening the focus to include other forms of queer resistance.
"Queer Ukraine: LGBTQi+ Voices during Wartime" is an anthology of stories, essays, and poems by 12 queer people in Ukraine and in the diaspora community, edited by Dvijka Collective. Against the backdrop of brutal invasion, LGBTQI+ people find ways to express themselves against all odds, to create beyond all constraints. Every voice tells a story, and this anthology is a platform for these voices, an archive of their existence. Proceeds from this book go to projects supporting LGBTQI+ people in Ukraine. information from SubRosa IG post - https://www.instagram.com/p/Cxqa39kxbQT/
AND not at SubRosa but still it check out…This Friday Oct 6th, 3pm Bring your seashells for an afternoon at the beach! (From @aulinta.project )
Maybe they would like it! We will have food for the humans. Aulinta means "place of the red abalone" so abalone shells are the guests of honor, but all shells, driftwood, sea glass, etc. are welcome! Bring something to drink, but we're going to cook some food to share on the fire. We don't know why this seems like a good idea, but it totally does!
Meet at Twin Lakes Beach at the fire pits. And please rsvp at @aulinta.project (helpful to plan food but not absolutely necessary to participate).
(You can take your shells back home. This is not suggesting you leave them on the beach, although you can if you like.)

-And another neighbor - Bike Church // Open Hours, Thursday - Monday, 12–5pm (Repeats every week) AND W.T.F. (Women, trans, femme) bike days are back! Every Tuesday starting from 11am - 4pm we will be open to anyone identifying as female, trans, femme, non-binary and gender-queer <3 if you do not identify as any of the above, come by the shop a different day! :)
About our wonderful neighbor, The Bike Church (enter on Spruce St) - "The Bike Church is a project of the Hub and has been Santa Cruz's only community bike shop since 1998. Our shop functions in a DIY/DIT (Do-It-Together) manner: we provide the tools, space and instruction for individuals to fix their own bike with the guidance of knowledgeable mechanics. We ask for a donation of $5-15 per hour to use the shop--no one is turned away for lack of funds. We provide used and new parts for affordable prices, and have many used bikes for sale. We give away kids bikes for free. Our shop is run by a collective of mechanics and apprentices who are all paid equally. We use consensus meetings to make decisions about the running of the shop." SubRosa is part of the Hub Community Center, in downtown Santa Cruz, CA which is the unceded homelands of the Awaswas-speaking Ohlone people known as the Uypi, who stewarded these lands since time immemorial. Centuries of colonial violence led to the removal and displacement of the Uypi. The Amah Mutsun Tribal Band, comprised of the descendants of indigenous people taken to missions Santa Cruz and San Juan Bautista during Spanish colonization of the Central Coast, is today working hard to restore traditional stewardship practices on these lands and heal from historical trauma.
Do you want to join SubRosa in solidarity with the Amah Mutsun Tribal Band?

Comments on the SubRosa website are fully moderated. As a collective, we agreed that the purpose of the website was to promote SubRosa, not to provide an online place for lively and invigorating debate. We hope that the space itself is where conversations on the nature of anarchism and local projects will take place. That said, we occasionally approve comments that are informative or reflect a viewpoint we feel it is important for website visitors to read.
